Our infographic provides data and a quick comparison between commercial drones in Germany and their Swiss counterparts. The data is based on bespoke studies carried out for the Verband Unbemannte Luftfahrt in Germany and the Drone Industry Association Switzerland as well as population and economic facts from the World Bank.
Germany has played a leading role in the drone market from the outset, and it continues to be at the forefront of drone technology. It is among the top countries in terms of drone investment, and some local companies are leading the charge in aspects such as air mobility. Meanwhile, Switzerland is almost 10x smaller than Germany in terms of population, yet its drone ecosystem is not 1/10 of Germany’s, which speaks highly of the Swiss drone market. This infographic shows how both countries perform in regard to: number of drones, drone company investments, average company age, drone market size and rank, what to watch for in each country.

“In 2021, the German drone market is worth €840M (US$995.76M) while the Swiss drone market is worth CHF 435.4M (US$475.62M). In terms of ranking within Europe, this places the German market as the number one market in absolute terms and number 9 per capita. Meanwhile the Swiss market ranks fourth in absolute terms and is the number one market on a per capita basis. Therefore, it is not surprising that both markets at expected to grow at rates of 14.5% CAGR in Germany and 10.6% in Switzerland.”
