This unique infographic summarizes the history of our annual drone industry survey. What began in 2018 as a European project has now become the world’s #1 drone industry survey, providing insights about drone companies and by drone companies themselves. The infographic features some bullet point insights about the results from each year’s survey, and it also includes a graph of the number of companies and countries that participated in each drone industry survey.

As the infographic shows, the first survey featured responses from 350 companies in 35 countries. This quickly evolved to 507 responses in twice as many countries (74) in the second edition of the survey in 2019. The third drone industry survey boasted a total of 697 responses (almost double the original two years before). However, the number of responses stagnated in the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, but then in 2022 the survey rose again to a total of 891 responses from 81 countries. Finally, in 2023, the global survey has surpassed the 1,000 mark and achieved 1,113 responses from 85 countries, making it the most comprehensive and widespread survey about the world of drones.

Our exclusive infographic provides a visual timeline of the achievements of the survey as well as some of the key insights from each year of the survey. The number of participants has steadily climbed with the exception of the pandemic years. This overlap highlights the fact that our survey closely follows and coincides with the events happening in the drone world. In other words: the survey is meant to track the state of the industry each and every year, and this is reflected in both the content of the survey as well as in the participation rates.

The content of the infographic provides value to both: drone industry professionals as well as those who are simply curious to learn more about commercial drones. The insights about drone use (application methods) and information about BIS (Business-Internal Services) as well as DSPs (Drone Service Providers) provide insights on what activities are carried out by either companies who use drones in-house (BIS) or by those who sell their services to other companies (DSPs). Moreover, understanding the most common drone application methods and the way these have changed every year is an important insight for business developers in order to forecast and determine which activities may be best for them to consider for their businesses.
