Our infographic shows the drone news in 2021 by displaying the Google trend line for “drone” throughout the year. The graphic also shows some of the key events that made major international headlines. The trend line for drone news in 2021 shows that searches peaked in late February and then even more towards the end of August and into September, they then experienced a drop during the months of October and November before climbing back up in December. In comparison to last year, there was a lower peak in the summer months, and a bigger dip at the start of autumn, yet the trend line recovered at the end of this year, whereas it dipped considerably at the end of last year.
In terms of individual headlines, many of the ones that stood out and were included in the graphic were: drone show in Scotland, FAA Remore ID rules in the US, volcano eruption drone video in Iceland, algorithms beating humans in a race, four passenger drones going public, and investments into various drone delivery and counter-drone companies. Though these were not the only or perhaps the most influential events for drone markets, they were the headlines that made their way around the globe and raised awareness about drones regardless of industry focus. In other words, they help establish drones as a part of society which is here to stay.

In other words, expectations have become more realistic, and less influenced by hype.”
