Our infographic shows the drone news in 2022 by displaying the Google trend line for “drone” throughout the year. The graphic also shows some of the key events that made major international headlines. The trend line for drone news in 2022 shows that searches peaked in late February, March, towards the end of August and at the end of December. Perhaps the only time when it can be said that drone news properly lost attention was in May. In comparison to last year, there was noticeably more attention given to drones over the course of the entire year. One likely reason is the headlines related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where recreational and commercial drones blurred the line into military drones. .
In terms of individual headlines, many of the ones that stood out and were included in the graphic were: Wisk securing an investment from Boeing of nearly half a billion US dollars, partnerships between Elroy Air and FedEx as well as Toyota and Zipline, life-saving drones in Spain, an epic drone show for the queen in London, and the publishing of the European Commission’s Drone Strategy 2.0.Additionally, the infographic only includes one major headline about drone giant DJI (i.e. its certification in the EU), however the company made other major headlines that are included in our blog.

A lot of the major commercial drone headlines in 2022 related to drone delivery news and counter-drone technology, but there were still plenty of big headlines about drone regulation and investments among other topics.”
